About the event

Not of This World” is not only a very plausible name for an album, such as KIRLIAN CAMERA’s best-of album released in late 2010; but also a good description of the show the band put up on April, 29 in a wonderful VIVA MUSIC event in Club Control, with a very artful preface from TANZ OHNE MUSIK. An otherworldly performance brought to you by Angelo Bergamini, Elena Fossi, Lexi Chevalier and Kyoo Nam Rossi kept the avid audience enthralled for almost two hours!

The festive atmosphere of the Labor Day weekend and the opening of the summer season were celebrated by VIVA MUSIC with a great event: the legendary KIRLIAN CAMERA for their first Romanian date. While their 30-year history on the scene of music requires little if any introduction, let it be said that the atmospheric music they perform is vivid, energetic and empathetic – qualities that were appreciated by the audience as well.

Tanz Ohne Musik @Control Club 29.04.2011 promoter: Viva Music – Review

The evening was opened spot-on by Dan Serbanescu’s newest project, TANZ OHNE MUSIK. A spoiled sibling of Divine Muzak and the Pixels, TANZ OHNE MUSIK goes on stage as Dan Serbanescu and Vali Chincisan (the latter regrettably absent on the night of 29-Apr, but successfully delegating to Color Nurse, who provided along Chincisan’s art her own). An experimental & ambient project, TANZ adds up to a very sincere visual experience coupled with music you have no other option than to listen to; and dance to. TANZ OHNE MUSIK went on the stage of Control Club alone so many times that it would certainly be not a mistake to call the act a club protégé and definitely one of the most vibrant and viral acts of the Bucharest club scene of 2011.

The audience, a mixed TANZ OHNE MUSIK posse and the usual novices all pricked their ears to the show and danced along with great zest; and the response was unanimously positive, a sign we at VIVA MUSIC are glad to have seen, since we rely greatly on the local scene and wish to be able to promote it further through events, online promotion and album and tour deals. Let it only be reminded that a similarly portentous act, BRAZDA LUI NOVAC, chosen by VIVA MUSIC for the opening of the COVENANT concert was positively received by COVENANT’s Daniel Myer and subsequently invited to his event PLANET MYER in January 2011.

What TANZ OHNE MUSIK brought to Club Control was a definite, well-imprinted feeling that music can equally be sound and color, and that the pairing thereof is a feast, one of the shapes assumed by darkness and of fragile, but convincing sounds.

Kirlian Camera @Control Club 29.04.2011 promoter: Viva Music -Review

The elegant warmup provided by TANZ OHNE MUSIK was done justice to, royally, by KIRLIAN CAMERA’s concert. A sensational stage entrance, with eerie music and hooded characters who light up their faces with flashlights, was greeted by the audience and the ensuing two hours were a peerless direction of energies, voices, instrument and cadence – a killer combination you would want to witness in any electronica/darkwave performance – all in a rendition with a very personal touch of Brahms’ “Ein Deutsches Requiem”.

The show was really momentous, and it kept the audience on the thin line between tension and release – both instances of energy flowing and being recaptured in a very sensuous and respectful exchange. While there was no doubt of the band’s magnitude and astuteness on stage, their ensuing unchained and at the same time choreographed disruptions being a well-credited self-reverential tribute to their career, one in which the very sound setlist offered great variety and great musicianship: from their earliest to their latest, all the stages of creation that mean KIRLIAN CAMERA were under the dim spotlight and were offered equal opportunities to seduce, animate and create a critical mass in the audience.

Early KIRILIAN CAMERA opus extracts, such as the rarely performed live “Edges”, “Blue Room” and “In the Endless Rain” vied for attention with newer KIRLIAN CAMERA productions such as “Odyssey Europa”, “Europa Drama Orbit” and “K-Pax”, as well as with cameo appearances from Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb”, majestically covered by KIRLIAN CAMERA, as well as from Ultravox’s “Hymn”, pious renditions to a common musical past that shapes up in many ways the way we listen to music nowadays. A very complex setlist, the one put on by KIRLIAN CAMERA in Club Control also meant a review of the band’s history at the speed of light.

One important fact to be kept in mind about their performance is that not all musicians on stage have witnessed the three decades of activity subsumed to the name of KIRLIAN CAMERA. Their rendition, therefore, did not betray one bit their lack of familiarity or remote conduciveness of material prior to their embarking on the KIRLIAN CAMERA boat. In fact, the band members’ personalities added flavor to the album recordings and to a certain extent revitalized the historical context of so many genres that shaped up their music: from the disco contingent to the darkwave vein, the show allowed to the audience a wide span of melodic interferences that make KIRLIAN CAMERA in itself unique and their show one of relentless dedication to quality and meaningfulness.

Even if the audience was fomented by the classical alliance of club regulars, KIRLIAN CAMERA fans and VIVA MUSIC events’ already solid and faithful clique, KIRLIAN CAMERA cast upon the audience a unifying trait: that of people who are in constant touch with their emotions and are able to shine them through layers of unaltered humanity and humaneness, the kind you would expect from a divine visitation or a preaching pontificate.

To Angelo Bergamini’s demure and guiding presence, the outgoing and valiant pose of Elena Fossi acted as a well-deserved complement. Elena’s restlessness was not at all gratuitous, she moved along to the multitude of beats befriending each of them with a twist or turn of her body, knowingly engaged in the production of each new sensation and new rhythm, keeping the audience captive with her voice. The final set of the show before the generous encores, including “Blue Room”, “Eclipse” and “Odyssey Europa” were a dramatic climax of Fossi’s abilities as a versatile artist, and literally swept over the audience. Note should also be made of the fine wizardry Lexi Chevalier and Kyoo Nam Rossi stirred with their very good command of instrument, stealing the same animated applause from the audience.

KIRLIAN CAMERA + TANZ OHNE MUSIK in Control Club, April 29, 2011

An ELECTRONIK (www.electronik.ro) event, promoted by VIVA MUSIC

(English version, scroll pentru versiunea in limba romana)

Take a photo of your soul with Kirlian Camera and Tanz Ohne Musik on April, 29, in an ELECTRONIK event promoted by VIVA MUSIC with support from CONTROL CLUB!

KIRLIAN CAMERA, a band that stands witness to the times we live in, takes an active and creative role in the metamorphoses of Italian pop into the genre of darkwave. For the first time in Romania, KIRLIAN CAMERA propose a show that fuses avant-garde and underground, with an opening from the most viral act of the club scene of the moment,  TANZ OHNE MUSIK.

In their thirty years of activity, KIRLIAN CAMERA got into every nook and corner of music, adding in the process defining marks to their style. With an unflinching belief in eclecticism as a motor of creativity, the music of KIRLIAN CAMERA was nourished by numerous collaborations, explorations of diverse styles, and the addition to their portfolio of several projects, among which we enumerate SEPULCRUM DEI, ALIEN MARTYR, STALINGRAD, SIDERARTICA or SPECTRA PARIS. At the same time, KIRLIAN CAMERA provided the musical score for art and experimental movies such as ”I ragazzi di Torino sognano Tokyo e vanno a Berlino”, ”Gli Anni Trenta” or ”Cosa c’entra con l’amore”.

The name of KIRLIAN CAMERA is very appropriate for the band. Inspired by the interest the band’s founder, Angelo Bergamini nurtured for metaphysics and occultism in the eve of the 1980’s, the name refers to the technique discovered by Semyon Kirlian, following a demonstration from the celebrated Nikola Tesla, that of phonograms exposed to high voltage energy. The photographs taken through the mere exposure of photographic film to electricity resembled angelic presences and created a sort of aura of the models: true photos of the soul, just like the music of KIRLIAN CAMERA, which proposes at the same time profoundness and delicacy, all wrapped up in an atmosphere in which each and everyone can bring their contribution through their own feelings.

The concert will be opened by the Romanian act TANZ OHNE MUSIK, a project by Dan Serbanescu (The Pixels, Divine Muzak) with visuals by Vali Chincisan. Dan will set up a tripod of atmosphere in Control Club, captivating sounds and lights on which KIRLIAN CAMERA will lay the camera and take photos of an ecstatic audience.

VIVA MUSIC’s ELECTRONIK concerts include to date MELOTRON (January 2009) and COVENANT (April 2010) concerts. They blend in perfectly with DARKWAVE.RO fests (February 2009, October 2010, January 2011) and other concerts from the same palette, such as COMBICHRIST+MORTIIS (March 2010).

Tickets cost 20 ron (presale) and 25 ron (at the venue) and can be bought online on www.myticket.ro, and www.ticketpoint.ro, as well as from Diverta, Muzica and Sala Palatului stores.

KIRLIAN CAMERA + TANZ OHNE MUSIK in Club Control, 29 aprilie 2011

Eveniment organizat de VIVA MUSIC cu sprijinul CONTROL CLUB

sub marca ELECTRONIK (www.electronik.ro)

KIRLIAN CAMERA + TANZ OHNE MUSIK in Club Control, 29 aprilie 2011

Eveniment organizat de VIVA MUSIC cu sprijinul CONTROL CLUB

sub marca ELECTRONIK (www.electronik.ro)

[scroll for English version]

KIRLIAN CAMERA + TANZ OHNE MUSIK in Control Club, April 29, 2011

An ELECTRONIK (www.electronik.ro) event, promoted by VIVA MUSIC

VIVA MUSIC continues the series of events under ELECTRONIK with a sizzling concert on April 29 in Control Club (19, Academiei St.) with the darkwave legend, KIRLIAN CAMERA and TANZ OHNE MUSIK, Romania’s most viral electro act of the moment.

KIRLIAN CAMERA, the first Italian band to be signed by coveted Virgin records, is on their first Romanian date, and their Romanian concert will be a literal explosion of darkwave mixed with synthpop, in the already renowned signature sound that the band patented in the history of music. A focal point of darkwave history, the activity of KIRLIAN CAMERA is a musical excursion of many years: from their first mini album to date, Angelo Bergamini and his band mates have never desisted and always managed to capture the scene and music technology with a personal twist in more than 20 albums and several hundreds of live dates.

Next to Angelo is Elena Fossi, also the frontwoman of SPECTRA PARIS, which is a refined and sexy project that adds value to the scene through an all-female lineup of ‘dead model society’ with ‘young ladies homicide club’ skills, to quote album names from their act. KIRLIAN CAMERA concerts are an energetic wave expressed via alert and subtle instrument and exceptional vocal exercise in all languages on Earth, as a polyglot manifesto for messages that appeal to all generations.

The concert will be opened by the Romanian act TANZ OHNE MUSIK, a project by Dan Serbanescu (The Pixels, Divine Muzak) with visuals by Vali Chincisan. Review of Covenant in Club Control, April 8, 2010 – a Viva Music event

Covenant - electro fiords and electro-balcanic sound in Club Control, April 8, 2010

On the night of April 8, Control Club hosted the concert of the Swedish band Covenant, a Viva Music event under the brand Electronik, organized under the high patronage of the Swedish Embassy.

Covenant justified their years of international success through a visibly refined and well polished stage presence. Eskil Simmonsson, Joakim Montelius and Daniel Myer delighted an audience of Romanians, Swedes, Germans, Irish people and Bulgarians, during a 2 hour exquisite show. The artists took “control” of an enthusiastic public, managing to fill the club that is already famous for promoting quality music.

The Swedes’ concert was opened by Brazda lui Novac (Victor Popescu) and visuals made by Vali Chincinsan. Brazda lui Novac caught the eye of the band agents attending the event, and got an engagement for a future international festival. Covenant members congratulated Victor for the show and presented him with interest for future collaborations.

The atmosphere of the concert was one filled with adrenaline and empathy. Eskil Simonsson was at times the cool performing artist on stage, at others the showman meant to entertain the audience and even melt into the crowd, breaking the barrier between the performer and the fan. The Swedish frontman didn’t hesitate to briefly storytell his experiences in Romania and thank the public constantly between singing Covenant hit singles (“Bullet”, “We Stand Alone”, “Call the Ships to Port”, “Brave New World”, “Like Tears in Rain”, “Ritual Noise”) and also songs from the future album, “Modern Ruin”.

The element of surprise of the show was not only the homogeneous setlist, but also the live performance, which combined majesty with romance, giving the crowd strong sensations and winning them over with a refined sound.

Viva Music wishes to thank the media partners, the guests and the friends that made this event possible and affectionately welcomes all of you to future Electronik events.

Covenant – fiorduri electro si sound electrobalcanic in Club Control, 8 aprilie 2010

Eskil Simonsson a impartasit publicului din experientele sale din sederea in Romania si a vorbit despre proiectele formatiei, propunand pe langa melodii de top (‚Bullet’, ‚Brave New World’, ‚Call the Ships to Port’, ‚The Men’) si cateva melodii din urmatorul album al formatiei.

COVENANT IN ROMANIA!

IN DESCHIDERE: BRAZDA LUI NOVAC

8 aprilie 2010, Club Control

O noapte cu bpm maxim si rafinament futurepop in Club Control (Str.

Artistii suedezi ne promit o calitate impecabila a sunetului si o prezenta scenica fina si eleganta.

Pentru prima data in Romania, Viva Music va prezinta MELOTRON!

Biletele costa 50 ron si s-au pus in vanzare online pe www.ticketpoint.ro, www.myticket.com, www.eventim.ro, www.blt.ro si www.bilete.ro si in reteaua magazinelor Diverta, Germanos si Carrefour.

AK: Cine-i cine la Melotron?

Melotron inseamna foarte multe lucruri. In primul rând o formatie, muzica buna, prietenia dintre trei tipi, o petrecere non-stop dar si o stare de bine in fiecare zi.

AK: Muzica inseamna viata.

Si evident, a existat si remake-ul pentru melodia ‘The sun always shines on TV’.

AK: Da, suntem ‘curati’. Nu suntem implicati in chestii dubioase.

VIVA: Veti avea primul spectacol live in România in Bucuresti pe 24 ianuarie.
